China Broiler Weekly: Substantial AA broiler price fall (week ended Oct 5, 2018)

An eFeedLink Exclusive

Price summary

Prices decreased significantly.

Market analysis

AA broiler

During late September, AA broiler plummeted 12% due to excess supplies as farmers hastened releases prior to the long holidays. The market stayed weak in the following week, albeit falling by a much slower pace of 3%.

After sliding during the last week of September, day-old chick prices rebounded and recovered the previous week's losses settling in the range of RMB5.10-5.40/chick.

China breed broiler

On the back of tight availability, fast-growth native broiler market was stable, with prices gaining 2% over the past two weeks.

Meanwhile, prices of hybrid broiler softened 4% during this period.

Chick prices for native broilers were mostly lower amid slack demand.

Market forecast

Demand for chicken is traditionally weak during October, hence weighing down prices of broilers. However, with supplies diminished price falls are expected to be limited.
RMB=US$0.1445 (Oct 10)
