JBS expands Brazilian beef plants to meet Chinese demand
JBS SA is increasing production capacity at two Brazilian units due to strong demand for its beef products in China, Reuters reported.
The meatpacker will pour in a combined investment of BRL45 million (US$12 million) for the expansion of the facilities which are based in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The funds would double the sites' production and thus boost beef exports to China, according to JBS.
"When comparing exports (to China) this year with the same period of last, we had a 125% increase in volume," Renato Costa, chief of the country's JBS beef division, was quoted as saying.
