Price summary

Prices weakened further.

Market analysis

AA broiler

Sales of broiler were slack as most buyers have accumulated ample stocks of chicken products. Falling sharply by 7.8%, AA broiler prices plunged for the consecutive fifth week, losing 23% during this period.

Chick prices plummeted as tumbling broiler prices dampened buying interest, which was already weak. Prices of AA chicks dipped RMB0.60-1.10/chick to the range of RMG0.55-0.90/chick.

China breed broiler

Prices of native broilers dropped 3.1% as releases increased over the week. Over the past three weeks, China breed broiler prices have slid by 11%.

Chick prices fell prominently while farmers withheld purchases.

Market forecast

After the long holidays in early October, broiler prices are traditionally weak due to subdued demand for chicken. Chick prices are likely to fall further as farmers are not eager to expand inventories with the climates turning cold.

RMB=US$0.1505 (Oct 4)
