Global markets

CNF prices of Peruvian prime-grade fishmeal softened to US$1,330/tonne.

Market analysis

Shipments of Peruvian fishmeal to China decreased significantly as traders withheld purchases with renminbi weak and port inventories mounting. Although the demand for fishmeal showed little improved while aqua feed producers limited output traders, who were barely making profits, were reluctant to negotiate prices.

Port inventories of fishmeal totalled 274,500 tonnes.

Price quotes for Peruvian prime-grade products stayed at RMB10,000-10,100/tonne.

Market forecast

Fishmeal prices are set to stay flat as China is on holidays during early October. After the festive break, prices are expected to weaken amid dwindling aqua feed production.
