Homelessness, malnutrition, exclusion from education, human trafficking and child labour are some of the problems impacting Thai children, Alltech says.
Hence, the company is donating THB173,283 to the "For the Better Life of Children" charity, which aims to house and educate children, and teach them basic knowledge on agricultural activities based on the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's sufficiency economy philosophy.
Alltech will supply knowledge on layer husbandry to the charity to ensure that the young beneficiaries are able to effectively and efficiently raise hens for both consumption and sales, thus providing them a sustainable form of income. "It is a privilege for us to be involved with For the Better Life of Children," said Matt Einarson, Alltech's regional director for Asia-Pacific.
"By sharing guidance from our experience in the industry, we have a special opportunity to influence their well-being now and far into the future. They will have the basic skills they need to produce essential protein and to make their own income."
Local philanthropic involvement is an important value within Alltech. "Alltech believes in doing well by doing good, and so we support the diverse communities around the world who make our work possible," said Adchana Chaiteerapinyo, regional marketing manager for Alltech Asia-Pacific.
These efforts range from disaster relief to the support of local orphanages and school science programmes. Chief among Alltech's philanthropic initiatives is its Sustainable Haiti Project. Following the devastating earthquake in January 2010, Alltech developed a sales and marketing programme for Haitian coffee and directs all sales proceeds to the support of two primary schools in the country.
