Skretting introduces new feed for Japanese yellowtail

Global fish feed company Skretting has introduced a feed for Japanese yellowtail with the lowest fishmeal content to be offered in that market.

The fishmeal content in Skretting's new Sustain feed is only 30%. This is close to half the proportion of fishmeal found in feeds conventionally used in Japan for this species and others such as red sea bream.

"Compared with current salmon feeds in countries like Norway, our New Sustain YT has higher fishmeal content, but in Japan, feeds usually have fishmeal contents over 50%, even up to 60%," explains Yuta Hamasaki, product development and formulation manager at Skretting Japan.
To prove it is possible for yellowtail to grow well on feeds with only 30% fishmeal, Skretting is conducting a trial on a commercial farm in the Nagasaki region. It started last November with yellowtail around 4kg in weight.

"The farmer already reported the fish are eating the feed well and growth looks good, comparable to fish being given a 50% fishmeal diet," said Hamasaki. Sampling began in April of this year.

He noted that to formulate this new Sustain feed, recent findings from Skretting's Aquaculture Research Centre were used, applying AminoBalance and MicroBalance concepts to ensure the fish get all the amino acids and micro-ingredients they need for normal growth, with enzymes added to enhance digestion.

Suited for grinding grain and pellets

Reduced noise level with new built-in motor

Comes with easy disc distance setting

Perten Instruments introduces new feed milling equipment

Perten Instruments introduces the new Disc Mill LM 3310; with which comes in a new design and several improved features.

The new mill replaces the previous model LM 3303. The grinding chamber dimensions as well as the grinding discs of LM 3310 are identical to the LM 3303. Particle size, particle distribution and moisture loss will be equivalent to the previous model.

The LM 3310, as its predecessor LM 3303, is well suited for grinding grain, pellets and other products for moisture and other analysis. The mill is also used in the AACC standard no. 55-30 for determination of wheat hardness by PSI (Particle Size Index).

Improved features contain: Reduced noise level due to a new built-in motor and easy disc distance setting. It also features a Start/Stop switch on the front of the mill and simplified procedures for disc change and distance control, which minimises servicing needs.
