*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.

Market analysis

Supplies of methionine remained abundant in China, exerting pressure on the market. Although two local producers lifted price quotes recently, transaction prices stayed weak as one new producer held prices low in efforts to gain a foothold in the market.

In Europe, prices of Chinese methionine for Q3 2017 deliveries stayed in the range of EUR2.34-2.45/kg.

Market forecast

Low feed intake of poultry under the summer heat will decimate the sales of methionine. Although some producers will limit output, supplies are set to remain plentiful due to strong competition. Methionine prices are therefore expected to remain soft in the coming period.
