SPACE 2012: Growing bigger and better

The 26th edition of SPACE will once again be held at the Rennes Exhibition Hall in Rennes, France, from 11 to 14 September. The largest livestock tradeshow in France, SPACE 2012 is set to outdo itself after having a record breaking 109,000 visitors last year. The 2011 edition attracted 1300 exhibitors, out of which there are 380 international traders from 35 countries, with 95% stating that SPACE is a high quality tradeshow.

Building on last year's theme of Ecologically Intensive Agriculture (EIA), this year's participants are encouraged to think ahead in their plans for their farms and facilities, and to incorporate economic considerations and environmental concerns to ensure their operation's higher ecological sustainability over the next 20 to 30 years. In particular, this year's SPACE will focus on the needs of cattle farmers and next year's on pig and poultry producers.

This concept will be fully fleshed out in the Research & Development platform (Hall 4), where there will be three display and activity areas that emphasise different aspects of agriculture production: the Innov'Actions area, In the Future Vision area and the Thinking Ahead area ("Anticipa").

The pavilions will demonstrate "concrete solutions for the choices of the future." These will include automation of various farm tasks, animal genetics, technology for animal tracking, systems designed to increase farmers'  efficiency modular design in buildings to improve animal welfare and performance, and means of improving energy efficiency.

SPACE is also working hard to expand the number of international visitors and exhibitors, with special perks and assistance provided for them. International visitors can pre-register online for a free admission badge for all four days, with multilingual hostesses on site to greet them.

Specially produced guides will list languages spoken by exhibitors so as to better facilitate business communication. Free short session interpreting services are also available. International visitors can also take the opportunity and enjoy the 11 agriculture site visits specially arranged for them.

To make navigating the show and staying informed easier, the SPACE mobile application introduced last year will be making a comeback at this year's event. With exhibitors spanning sectors from the animal feed, farm  equipment, farm buildings, breeding, artificial insemination, hatcheries, animal health, farm waste treatment and agri-energy fields, SPACE 2012 is a must-go for everyone in the livestock industry.
