Market analysis

Prices of giant tiger prawn were relatively stable in June while that for whiteleg shrimp were slightly up. At the beginning of the month, prices of whiteleg shrimp were on a downtrend due to the influence of the global market. Specifically, prices for size 60 to 100 pcs per kilogram ranged from VND70,000 (US$3.01) to VND100,000 (US$4.30). However, prices went up in the middle of the month. In particular, prices for size 100 pcs per kilogram were in the range of VND80,000 (US$3.44) [up VND7,000 (US$0.30) to VND9,000 (US$0.39) compared to last month)] and prices for other sizes were up VND3,000 (US$0.13).

Market forecast

According to experts, supplies would probably be reduced in the third and fourth quarters as farmers tighten expanding production. Therefore, shrimp prices are expected to increase in August and September.

Shrimp exports are expected to hit US$4.8 billion in 2018, up 26%.
