EU issues temporary ban on all Russian poultry imports
European Union authorities have banned poultry imports from Russia as its poultry industry is faced with outbreaks of avian influenza.
A highly infectious form of avian flu affected two of Russia's largest meat producing companies, Cherkizovo and Damante, impacting poultry farms in Rostov, Kursk, Samara, Orel and Penza regions.
The ban is temporary and does not apply to heat-treated meat.
Currently, only 18 Russian companies are approved to export poultry to EU countries.
