Animal Health Ventures was formed in 2016 within Merck Animal Health to identify and bring new and non-traditional growth opportunities into the commercial business. AHV is responsible to 1) discover new opportunities that meet real customer needs in the AH space, via new technologies or new approaches 2) prioritise and present to the Investment Board the opportunities to further invest in 3) operate a validation and milestone process for opportunities to either prove out, pivot from or cease development, and 4) partner with the AH business to take validated opportunities to scale.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Animal Health Ventures, this position will be involved in all aspects of the unit operation. They will be significantly involved in managing the ideation / discovery and validation processes as these are established and then constantly evolving and improving these processes, as well as working closely with and managing growth opportunities that AHV is investing in. This could include any number of activities up to and including governance / oversight responsibility.
The successful applicant will be forward thinking, with strong organizational and process skill, and have the ability to be creative and analytical as needed. They are likely to have experience in one or more of the following areas- consultancy, venture investment, business development or strategy and preferably have recent experience in innovation initiatives or organizations that have been establishing innovative approaches to their markets and customers.
AHV is centred around Merck's Animal Health global headquarters in Madison, New Jersey. Travel can be expected up to 25% of time.
Education Minimum Requirement:
• Degree in Business, Finance, Technology or related fields
• Minimum of 5 years working in consultancy, private equity, financial, business development, strategy or related commercial experience
• Experience in managing projects
• Communication skills- ability to communicate clear and concise trends, opportunities and impacts
• Interpersonal skills- ability to influence and gain support for projects and initiatives where the support is not from people in the direct reporting line or department
• Organizational skills- ability to manage multiple projects at one time, including contractual, logistical, communication and meeting management.
Creative- open minded to different approaches and able to see and balance opportunities, potential solutions and risk
