ADDCON's aquaculture seminar in the Mekong Delta
 
 
Issues and solutions for Vietnam's fast growing pangasius and shrimp farming lines.
 
On June 6, 2012, ADDCON and its Vietnamese distributer AuViet called for a seminar inviting decision makers from the Mekong Delta to anaqua-nutrition seminar in Can Tho City. 
 
Vietnam is currently ranked as the third largest aquaculture producer in the world (after China and India) with the Mekong Delta as its center accounting for 72% of total Vietnam aquaculture production. Mr. Nguyen Duc Nghia, CEO of AuViet, opened the seminar followed by Dr. Van Tho Minh – technical manager of ADDCON in Vietnam - reviewing production trends of the Vietnamese aquaculture industry.
 
The more than 80 participants received keynote lectures on pangasius nutrition given by Dr. Hung Le Thanh, dean of aquaculture department at the Nong Lam University, as well as from Dr. Kai-J. Kühlmann, technical manager of ADDCON on the use of AQUAFORM - the most widely used acidifier in aquaculture, in shrimp and Pangasius.
 
Dr. Kühlmann clarified the high efficiency of the potassium-diformate based product in killing pathogenic bacteria and improving digestibility parameters and thus grow out performance. He presented data from trials with pangasius and white leg shrimp (L. vannamei) obtained from research and commercial trials conducted in Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.
 
The seminar demonstrated a milestone for the present development of the aquaculture industry in the Mekong Delta and participants showed strong interest, especially with regards to fast growing shrimp aquaculture.
