DSM appoints new president of DSM Japan

Royal DSM has announced the appointment of Kazunori Maruyama as the president of DSM Japan, effective July 1.

Maruyama succeeds Yuji Nakahara, who has served as president since August 2015.

He started his career in 1993 with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation as a research associate and manager of new business development. In 2006, he joined Dow Corning where he held various senior global commercial and marketing positions.

Maruyama went on to join his most recent company, OMRON Corporation in 2015, where he has held various general management positions. In his most recent role, he was responsible for business incubation and business development in agri-automation.

Maruyama holds a master's degree in business administration and chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was a Leaders for Manufacturing Fellow. He also holds a Ph.D. in materials science from Mie University, in Mie, Japan.

As president, Maruyama will be responsible for leading strategic advocacy in the field of sustainability while building relationships and driving new business development amongst key customers and business partners. His role will also provide leadership on delivering innovative solutions across the nutrition and materials business that address some of the country's biggest challenges and bolster business agility. He will further nurture a performance culture that is customer focused while growing talent leadership and skills in DSM Japan.

"I am honored to be appointed president of DSM Japan," Maruyama said. "Japan is in many ways at the forefront of DSM global mega-trends, with an increasing need for sustainable solutions ranging from nutritional products specific to healthy ageing to driving forward a low carbon economy. I am excited for the opportunity to continue to grow our presence in the region."

Former DSM Japan president Yuji Nakahara will be taking on a new role at DSM, leading its global nutritional lipids business out of the North America headquarters.
