Global markets

CNF prices of Peruvian prime-grade fishmeal dipped to the range of US$1,620-1,640/tonne.

Presales of fishmeal totalled around 300,000 tonnes.

Market analysis

Although the costs of Peruvian fishmeal dropped of late, traders, who were barely making ends meet, held prices firm in China.

Port inventories of fishmeal increased marginally by 1,000 tonnes to 223,000 tonnes despite expanding aquaculture population. Feed producers remained cautious as the aqua farming in the southern parts of China was disrupted due to storms and floods.

Market forecast

Aqua feed producers will remain prudent as the outlook of the aquaculture sector is uncertain. With import costs lower, traders are likely to negotiate prices, albeit modestly, to clear stocks.
