Vietnam's ASF outbreak increases likelihood of state of emergency

Vietnam may be forced to declare a state of emergency if the African swine fever outbreak in the country worsens, Bloomberg reported.

So far, the disease was discovered in more than 400 districts in 55 Vietnamese provinces and cities, sparking off the culling of some 2.5 million hogs, Pham Van Dong, head of Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture's animal health department, told Tien Phong newspaper.

According to Dong, the ASF outbreak could worsen, increasing the likelihood of a state of emergency.

Vietnam is the world's biggest pork-consuming nation by capita outside of the EU.
