Israel reports more cases of Newcastle disease

Israel have reported more cases of Newcastle disease in the regions of Hadarom and Hazafon.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No. 17 on May 17, 2012. According to the report, the affected population consists of five-week-old meat turkeys, five-week-old broilers and 43-week-old heavy breeders, whose eggs have been destroyed.

Out of 75300 susceptible birds, approximately 6900 cases were reported. While 1,950 deaths occurred, 48,550 birds were destroyed.

The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive and the epidemiological investigation is on-going.
