Russia reinstates Ukraine's MHP poultry deliveries

Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, has renewed the certification of production for Mironovskaya Poultry Farm, which is part of the agricultural holding MHP, the Service reports.

However, the deliveries will initially only be permitted to the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

According to the Service, delivery may be made through the checkpoints Perekop, Armenian, and through Chongarsky Strait. It is not completely clear whether MHP's poultry will be able to re-enter the market of the Customs Union, or the certification will be limited only within the territory of the Crimean peninsula.

MHP is the largest producer and exporter of poultry in Ukraine and over the past year its supply of poultry abroad has doubled to 123,000 tonnes, with Russia accounting for about 40,000 tonnes, or one third of total shipments.

Ukrainian experts believe that in February this year the Russian market was closed to Ukrainian producers mainly for political reasons. In addition to Russia, Ukraine also lost markets in Kazakhstan and Belarus, as well as some other countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States - particularly Uzbekistan, as Russia would not allow transit of Ukrainian poultry through its territory.
