Market analysis
 
The shrimp market was relatively stable in April. For giant tiger prawn, in the last week, price for size 20 pcs/kilo was about VND335,000 (US$14.75), VND280,000 (US$12.29) for size 30 pcs/kilo, and VND220,000 (US$9.66) for size 40 pcs/kilo. For whiteleg shrimp, compared to last month, price for size 80 pcs/kilo was down VND5,000 (US$0.22) and price for size 100 pcs/kilo dropped VND10,000 (US$0.44).
 
 
The export value of shrimp reached US$273 million in April, increasing the total value for the first four months of the year to US$1,015 million, up 13.4% compared to the same period last year.
 
Output of giant tiger prawn hit 57,000 tonnes in April while that of whiteleg shrimp hit 62,800 tonnes, up 28% compared to the same period last year.
 
In the Mekong Delta, output of giant tiger prawn hit 46,700 tonnes in April, up 1% compared to the same period last year, accouting for 82% of the total output of the country. Meanwhile, output of whiteleg shrimp hit 51,500 tonnes, up 28% compared to the same period last year, accouting for 82% of the total output of the country.
 
 
Market forecast
 
It is forecast that the shrimp market would be stable from April till October as this is also the harvest period for shrimp in many countries.
