Animine: Heat stress, a hot topic at 21st ESPN
The physiology of thermoregulation in broilers has been reviewed by Dr Shelly Druyan of the Volcani Center (Israel), at the 21st European Symposium on Poultry Nutrition in Spain, Animine reports.
According to Dr Druyan, broilers with the highest growth performance are more sensitive to heat stress. Different nutritional strategies are available to poultry producers to maintain performance under hot conditions. Results from one experiment supervised by Dr Zaghari at Tehran University showed that zinc source can affect broiler health under chronic cyclic heat stress.
The standard premix in the control diet was supplemented with 100 mg/kg Zn from conventional zinc oxide. Three regimes tested the dose response with 75, 100 and 125 mg/kg Zn from HiZox®, a product of Animine. Regardless the supplementation level, all broilers had reduced mortality in comparison to the control.
At the 20th ESPN in Prague, results from INRA had shown that the bioavailability of HiZox® was significant higher than zinc oxide sources and zinc sulphate.
A recent study from Ghent University (Michiels, 2016) confirmed an improvement of the gut barrier function when HiZox® replaces the standard zinc source, Animine says.
