Market analysis

With hog prices falling to near-eight year lows, sales of hog feed and hence lysine were slow. Feed producers opted to purchases as and when required having little confidence in the outlook of the hog market. Additionally, a weakening soymeal market, which decimated the usages of lysine, discouraged feed producers from stockpiling the product.

Nonetheless, producers of lysine stood firm after the recent round of price cuts.

In Europe, price quotes stayed in the range of EUR1.30-1.36/kg.

Market forecast

Lysine prices are likely to move lower as sales stay sluggish and export orders remained slow. With supplies abundant, producers will be compelled to negotiate prices amid mounting lysine inventories.
