Market analysis

Trade was light in the lysine market as buyers held back purchases while most producers stood firm with export demand strong and availability tight. Nonetheless, smaller players in the market were willing to negotiate prices in a bid to clear stocks.

Meanwhile, China began its state corn auction on May 5, a move that is expected to soften corn price and hence lysine production cost.

In Europe, price quotes for Q2 deliveries rose to the range of EUR1.35-1.40/kg on stable demand.

Market forecast

Demand for lysine should improve in the coming weeks as hog producers fatten animals before releases in the period leading to the Dragon Boat Festival. This, together with firm export demand, will lend support to lysine market.

However, with feed millers staying cautious and the capacity of lysine industry high, the upward potential of prices will be limited.
