Adisseo expands technical and commercial teams for aquaculture

Following its acquisition of Nutriad, Adisseo continues to increase its footprint in aquaculture as it announced a number of appointments in its Business Unit Aquaculture.

"Feed additives are playing an increasingly important role in aquaculture feed formulations and profitability of fish and shrimp farmers. Health promotors in functional feeds have proven to be an essential component of prevention strategies to reduce the impact of diseases and parasites. Digestive and metabolic enhancers improve the efficiency for carnivorous species of new types of formulations based on less marine proteins and fats, and maximise feed cost efficiency in omnivorous species. Methionine is the first limiting essential amino acid in fish feed, particularly if formulated with low levels of marine ingredients. Organic selenium is one of the key trace minerals in oxidative stress prevention. Novel sources such as hydroxy selenomethionine prove to be a superior source of available selenium for aquafeed. These wide range of additives require a species-specific optimisation for different aquaculture species and regions. This increases the need for specialised customer support at local and global level. The recent acquisition of Nutriad by Adisseo has allowed us to speed up the pace of our expansion plans in aquaculture," says Dr. Peter Coutteau, Business Unit Director Aquaculture for Adisseo.

Francois Pellet, Adisseo's SBU Director Specialties adds, "Nutriad has consistently been investing in species-specific solutions for the aqua market, which has helped us to create a leadership position in the industry that recognises us for how we convert science into practical solutions, that build on a deep understanding of the challenges producers around the world face. The acquisition of Nutriad will help us accelerate our solution offering to this fast-growing market, by combining technical knowledge across various platforms, combining portfolios and enhancing our innovation capabilities for aquaculture research."

Martin Guerin is a graduate from Auburn University, US (MSc in fish nutrition), and holder of master level degrees in agricultural science and business management from Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon and University of Paris Dauphine, France. He has worked for more than 25 years in the aqua feeds and feed additives industry, including 20 years in Asia. After having headed for 13 years the aqua nutrition division of a feedmill group, overseeing commercial aquafeeds formulation, R&D, research farms, and technical support, he spent the past three years as a private technical consultant in aqua nutrition providing advice to commercial feed operations and feed additives companies. Martin supports the aquaculture sales team in Asia Pacific/Indian Subcontinent (APAC/ISC) in his function of Regional Technical Manager Aquaculture, based in Malaysia.

Marleen Dehasque joined the central aqua team located in Belgium as Global Product Manager Aquaculture Nutrition. Marleen obtained a Master of Science in Bioscience Engineering: Chemistry and bioprocess technology at the University of Ghent, Belgium. She has over 25 years of experience in R&D, product management and business development in multinational aquafeed companies and, during recent years as an independent consultant, in supporting the development of novel feed ingredients in aquaculture. Marleen will support the regional sales teams and direct applied research for the merged product portfolios for aquaculture nutrition of Nutriad and Adisseo.

Ismail Youssef Mohamed joined the Business Unit Aquaculture as Regional Manager Aquaculture MEA (Middle East and Africa), based in Egypt. Ismail has obtained a MSc in Aquaculture from the Mansoura University, Egypt and an MBA from the Saleh Kamel Center For Islamic Economics in collaboration with Al Azhar University and Garden York University, US.
