Market analysis
 
In March, live hog prices were on a general downtrend across the country due to the lowered local demand and demand from China.
 
Live hog prices in the North declined by the range of VND1,000 (US$0.045) to VND3,000 (US$0.13) per kilogram, to reach VND30,000 (US$1.32) to VND35,000 (US$1.54) per kilogram. In Son La prices were down VND3,000 (US$0.13) to reach VND33,000 (US$1.45); in Hanoi prices were up slightly from VND33,000 (US$ 1.45) to VND35,000 (US$1.54).
 
In central provinces, live hog prices were down by the range of VND1,000 (US$0.045) to VND3,000 (US$0.13) per kilogram. In particular, prices in Ha Tinh dropped VND1,000 (US$0.045) to reach VND34,000 (US$1.49); prices in Khanh Hoa were down VND2,000 (US$0.085) to reach VND31,000 (US$1.36).
 
In the South, prices ranged from VND27,000 (US$1.19) to VND32,000 (US$1.41) per kilogram, down VND2,000 (US$0.085) compared to a few months ago.
 
According to customs data, imports of pork meat in February was US$0.26 million, a sharp decline of 60% compared to January.
