Market analysis

Pork demand shrank after Qingming Festival, dragging pork carcass prices lower by 0.92% to RMB15.06/kg.

Nonetheless, supplies of hog remained abundant, lifting weekly pork carcass volume by 1.1% to 8,182 tonnes. Prices dipped 2.5% as a result, as slaughterhouses were not eager to stockpile high inventories.

Market forecast

Pork demand is unlikely to strengthen before June without any festive stimulation. Amid slow sales, hog prices are expected to stay soft unless pork imports shrink tremendously due to the sharp rise in import tariff.
