Global markets

CNF prices of Peruvian prime-grade fishmeal fell substantially to US$1,680/tonne, while those for May/June deliveries were at RMB1,660/tonne.

Peru's fish catch in the northern seas as of April 10 totalled 147,000 tonnes, which was about 4% of the 3.32 million tonnes quota.

Market analysis

As the demand for fishmeal stayed flat, traders slashed prices while import costs of Peruvian products slid significantly. On average, fishmeal prices plummeted 4.7% over the week.

Market forecast

The recent price fall is expected to entice feed producers, particularly aqua feed manufacturers, to stockpile inventories. This will help to underpin fishmeal prices in the coming week.
