*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.

Market analysis

Feed producers were not motivated to increase inventories of methionine while usages were slow with poultry feed sales slow. Moreover, supplies are seen abundant with the capacity of the industry high and exports limited due to a string renminbi. Moat producers were inclined to negotiate prices of methionine on a case-by-case basis.

In Europe, prices of China-produced methionine were in the range of EUR2.26-2.35/kg.

Market forecast

Methionine availability is expected to remain abundant despite low imports. Although methionine producers are tempted to lift prices, lacklustre demand for the product will weigh on prices.
