Kazakhstan will plant grains at a level of 15.9 million hectares in 2013, said Asylzhan Mamytbekov, the country's Minister of Agriculture.
The figure includes wheat at 13 million hectares.
The general planted areas of spring crops will reach 18.6 million hectares, Mamytbekov added.
According to preliminary data of oblasts, 21.4 million hectares of agricultural crops are expected to be planted in 2013, which is almost at the level of the index in 2012.
However, Mamytbekov said that, under the terms of the Memorandum on diversification crop areas for 2012-2016, agrarians will reduce planted areas of wheat by 468 thousand hectares, compared with the level of 2012. Rice will be down by 5.5 thousand hectares.
At the same time, corn will increase by 5.6 thousand hectares. Other grains will rise by 76.8 thousand hectares. Oilseeds will reach 1.9 million hectares, up 43.1 thousand hectares compared to 2012, the Minister noted.
