Market analysis

Hog supplies were ample as smaller farms continued to release stocks to cut losses. Pork carcass sales increased 2.7% to 8,739 tonnes, exerting pressure on prices while pork demand remained soft.

Over the week, hog prices plunged 6.7%, contributing to the 23% plummet over the past five weeks.

Market forecast

Hog prices are seen soft with supplies exceeding demand. However, pork demand will strengthen in the coming weeks with Qingming Festival approaching. Prices are therefore expected to stabilise gradually.
