*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.

Global markets

In Europe, quotes for Q2 orders increased to EUR3.30-3.35/kg.

Market analysis

Stronger methionine prices in Europe prompted some sellers to lift prices in China. However, several of them were hesitant as poultry feed demand, in particular that of layer, showed little improvement. Hence, methonine price trends remained unclear in China.

Market forecast

Methionine sellers will be tempted to lift price quotes in the coming period. Nonetheless, with local production poised to increase and layer inventories leveling off from its 19-months climb, the upward potential of the market will be limited.
