Monsanto joins R&D facility at North Carolina research campus

Monsanto Company announced its intention to become part of the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC), a one-of-a-kind facility under development in Kannapolis, North Carolina.

Monsanto has signed a long-term lease to establish research facilities focused on improving the taste and nutritional composition of vegetables, and enhancing the nutritional content of food-focused row crops such as soy.

Robb Fraley, chief technology officer for Monsanto, said, "The research centre holds great promise and the potential to make a significant contribution to human health, nutrition and agriculture. The synergy that exists at a campus like this could lead to truly innovative research and products with long-term benefits for consumers."

Monsanto will be a flagship corporate tenant at NCRC's 350-acre life science campus. Previously announced tenants of NCRC include the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, North Carolina State University, Duke University, Appalachian State University, and Dole Foods R&D Group.

The North Carolina Research Campus is a world-class facility where industry researchers and academic scientists from across the globe work together to drive innovation and discovery at the intersection of nutrition, human health and agriculture.

BioMar relocates hatchery feed range production to France

BioMar's hatchery feed range LARVIVA has been relocated from Denmark to its factory in Nersac, France with a view to benefiting hatcheries in the Mediterranean region.

The move will offer improved logistic services and a closer dialogue between customers and BioMar's product development team.

According to LARVIVA product manager Marleen Dehasque, by moving closer to the company's most important markets, the distance from the production site to the Mediterranean hatcheries has been reduced significantly. This will result in better product availability, shorter lead time and increased flexibility.

In addition, by combining the live feed solutions, weaning and nursery diets in the LARVIVA range with the fry feed in the INICIO Plus range, BioMar can cover all feed needs in the hatcheries in one single delivery, Dehasque added.

This coincides with BioMar's recent reinforcing of its Mediterranean region sales & technical support team, as it focuses on expanding its market access and technical knowledge across southern Europe.

CJ Corp plans to expand lysine operation

At a groundbreaking ceremony for the second phase construction of its nucleotide plant in China's Shandong province, CJ Corporation indicated that it will also be expanding its feed additives operation over the middle- and long-term.

Through its investment plans, CJ, South Korea's largest foodstuff manufacturer, aims to raise lysine production capacity to 500,000 tonnes by 2013. In addition, CJ hopes it can leverage the expansion's resulting scale economies to market share parity with China's Global Bio-Chem Group and Japan's Ajinomoto Group in the feed lysine market.

In order to establish itself as the leader in the Chinese market, CJ announced that it will focus its lysine investments primarily in China.

As part of its focus on fast growing emerging markets, CJ also intends to expand its Indonesian and Brazilian plants. Besides these three main production bases, CJ is considering to set up additional plants in Southeast Asia. The company expressed that it is open to the idea of acquiring existing lysine producers or establishing joint ventures.
