1.32 million tonnes of corn sold by China to feed processing companies
China's state planner said the government has sold 1.32 million tonnes of corn to feed processing companies in provinces south of the country to maintain supply of raw materials, reported Reuters
According to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), 23 feed processing companies participated in the auction held between February 7 to 11, 2020. These companies are located in Hubei, the centre of the coronavirus outbreak.
The NRDC said the corn sales are exempted from transaction fees and meant to supply these companies and resume feed production in that region.
There have been reports of poultry farmers forced to kill young birds as there isn't enough feed due to transport restrictions imposed to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
