Price summary

Prices softened lately.

Market analysis

AA broiler

AA broiler prices continued to drop with contract broilers plentiful. Slaughterhouses were reluctant to increase prices as the sales of chicken products were below expectations. On average, AA broiler prices tumbled 9.3% over the week in review.

AA chick prices strengthened, however, amid low production. Increasing RMB1-1.30, prices of day-old chicks were in the range of RMB5.20-5.60/chick.

China breed broiler

Lacklustre demand for fast-growth native broiler softened prices by 1.1%. Meanwhile, hybrid broiler prices rebounded 1.5% on stable sales.

Prices of fast-growth chick moved lower whereas those of hybrid chick strengthened from low levels.

Market forecast

Broiler demand will be weak, dragging prices lower. This will impact chick sales as farmers turn prudent before the festive holidays.

RMB=US$0.1483 (Feb 4)
