HKScan to sell pork products in China through Alibaba's retail chain
HKScan has landed an important contract with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.
With its Omega-3 Pork® quality products, HKScan is the first company in the Finnish meat industry to get products to Hema, Alibaba's grocery retail, the Nordic meat company said. The Hema chain stands out in the Chinese market for its high-quality products, with around 100 supermarkets across China.
"The pure taste, healthier fat composition (together with) the arctic twist of our products convinced Hema and they made a quick decision to include our products to their selection," said Jukka Nikkinen, head of HKScan exports.
"Hema's unique online store facilitates our branding efficiently and we get to tap into the right consumer segment."
HKScan said that the next concrete step in its "export journey in China have been planned."
"We are growing the distribution inside the Hema chain in Shanghai and nearby areas. After that our target is to expand to other premium food stores both online and offline. In addition to Shanghai area, we are looking also to expand to other tier-1 cities," Nikkinen added.
HKScan currently exports meat to nearly 50 countries. The exports include those delivered to EU countries as well as to New Zealand and Japan.
