Vietnam's FTA with Russia, Ukraine and Belarus could boost  seafood exports

According to the Vietnamese embassy's trade counselor, Pham Quang Niem, Vietnam is about to conclude the negotiation of a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan in 2014, a development which will benefit the country's seafood exporters.

Favoured by more tax incentives, Russia's recent WTO membership will facilitate exports of Vietnam goods in 2014. Although global economic growth remains sluggish, Russia's demand for seafood is forecasted to post a sharp increase. Looking ahead, Vietnam's export earnings from Russia are expected to hit US$7 billion in 2015 and US$10 billion in 2020.

Meanwhile, 10 Vietnamese fish exporters were allowed to export to Ukraine. On January 21, 2014, the National Agro Forestry Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (NAFIQAD) published an official letter to inform that these seafood enterprises were included to the list of inspected facilities for import of pangasius to Ukraine.

In addition, the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine (SVPS) SVPS also provides its report on expert evaluation over corrective actions needed to deal with irregularities detected during a December 2013 visit.

The 10 establishments allowed to export fish to Ukraine were Huung Vuong - Vinh Long Co.,Ltd; Frozen Factory AGF9; MEKONGFISH Co.,Ltd; EJS Co.,Ltd; Asia Pangasius Co.,Ltd; Workshop II - Hung Vuong Corp; Ba Lai Processing plant  - FAQUIMEX; Viet Phu Foods & Fish Corp; Hung Ca Frozen Fish Factory - HUNGCA Co.,Ltd; and HTFOOD.
