Export price of Norwegian fresh salmon declines 4% in week ended Jan. 13
The export price of Norwegian fresh salmon during the period Jan. 7-13 decreased 4.1% to NOK63.90 (US$7.48) per kilogramme compared with the previous seven-day period Dec. 31-Jan. 6, according to the latest data released by Statistics Norway on Wednesday, Dec. 19.
Compared with the same week last year, the price is 11.6% higher.
The export quantity of fresh salmon was 16,968 tonnes during the same period. This was 40.3% more than the previous week, when exported volume was 12,098 tonnes. Statistics Norway noted, however, that weeks including Christmas and New Year normally show lower export volumes.
Export volume, when compared with the same week last year, was 0.2% lower.
As for frozen salmon, Norway exported 281 tonnes worth NOK59.72 per kilo during the reviewed period. Volume was up 195.8%, while price was down 9.9% compared with the previous week. Compared with the same period last year, volume was down 5.1%, while price was up 12.4%.
Salmon is Norway's most important species for seafood exports.
