Market analysis

Demand for feed additives was slack as feed millers, who were not confident in the pre-Chinese New Year market, chose to stand on the side line. Moreover, weak export demand, resulting from a strong renminbi, and soft soymeal prices, exerted further pressure on lysine market.

Nonetheless, after the recent weeks sharp cuts, lysine producers were reluctant to negotiate prices.

In Europe, price quotes for Q4 deliveries stayed in the range of EUR1.29-1.35/kg.

Market forecast

Lysine market will continue to remain weak with feed millers holding back purchases, soymeal prices soft and overseas demand limited. Producers will be compelled to hold down prices.

However, it should also be noted that train schedules are tight due to the stormy winter weather. This may result in tight availability and hence firmer prices in the northern parts of China.
