Prabhat Dairy establishes development agreement with Danish feed maker
India's Prabhat Dairy has entered into a joint development agreement with Denmark's DLG, as the former seeks to make its mark in the animal nutrition market.
Prabhat Dairy provides cattle feed under the Annapurna brand to dairy farmers, while DLG produces vitamin- and mineral-based feeds for livestock. The agreement between both companies will drive Prabhat Dairy's diversification, The Economic Times reported.
A separate animal nutrition business would also be launched by the company.
"Under this agreement, two products which are already developed in Denmark, will be shipped to India for a pilot. One of these two products is for milching cows and another for dry cows, and will be given to 150 selected farms to administer on 1,000 cows for the improvement of health and to increase milk productivity and quality," an official statement said.
The pilot phase will last for four to six months, which may be followed by a commercial launch.
"The animal feed industry is estimated to be worth US$30 billion by 2020. The segment primarily comprises cattle feed and poultry feed... To tap this potential, we are entering into the animal nutrition business," Prabhat Dairy joint managing director Vivek Nirmal said.
