*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.

Market analysis

Usages of methionine were slow, decimating sales despite pre-New Year stockpiling. Moreover, supplies of methionine were ample, exerting pressure on local producers and traders to cut prices while imported product distributors lowered price quotes.

In Europe, prices of China-produced methionine were in the range of EUR2.09-2.12/kg.

Market forecast

Sales of methionine should remain slow during early January, picking up towards middle of the month as feed millers stock inventories before the long Chinese New Year holidays. However, with supplies plentiful and the livestock markets weak, the upward scope of methionine market will be limited.
